Back in August 2025 we were awarded a $30,000 community grant from Tursa Employment and Training. That grant set the wheels in motion to bring our dream of a dedicated space to provide next step recovery, connection and work readiness programs. While we had always done these things as part of Protea Place Women's Support Centre we didn’t have the capacity with staffing and space to fully invest in those important areas.
Once we received this grant, we fast tracked our plans, accepted a fabulous space offered to us in Grand Central Shopping Centre and a massive shop fit out was underway.
This was all still a leap of faith but we just knew it was possible.
We then won a further $100,000 grant from Future Generation Women in November 2025 followed by the announcement of $170,000 in late January 2026 to provide a Skills for Queensland programme for vulnerable women.
In under 6 months we had created the model, fitted and furnished the space, added the social enterprise boutique, employed staff, hosted the official opening of The Apiary and signed up our first 20 participants.
Today I popped in to drop some things off. The Bloom program was in full swing and the women were having a hands on interactive session in customer service .
To see this dream come to fruition was incredibly heartwarming. To see the enthusiasm and engagement in the eyes of the participants demonstrated hope and recovery.
This project has been possible only due to the support and dedication of our amazing community and we are forever grateful.
These women are supported by the most skilled and committed team of staff and volunteers and we are so very honoured to have such wonderful humans making this all happen.
Much love and gratitude
