4 Pink Wheels
- Alarmingly, this figure is predicted to more than double by 2036.
- These women grapple with financial hardship driven by rising costs, limited employment opportunities, meagre superannuation, and a scarcity of affordable housing. Women over 55 are now the fastest-growing homeless population in Australia.
- In Australia, only 6 percent of people who are homeless sleep on the streets.
- Young or old, women are disproportionately represented in homelessness statistics. Last year, 19% of people seeking help from specialist homelessness services were aged 15–24, with nearly twice as many females (66%) compared to males (34%)
Provide Vital Support
More than 40,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 face homelessness, and we believe over 500 of them may be right here in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs South West and the Southern Downs Regions. That's 500 women who are someone's beloved aunt, mother, or grandmother, struggling to stay afloat. Accurate numbers are elusive as these women are often hidden from view.
Often referred to as the "hidden homeless," these women live in cars, couch surf, and face the constant threat of violence or abuse. Their hardships are not always visible, but they are very real.
By participating in the 4 Pink Wheels event, you're taking a stand to empower vulnerable women right here in Toowoomba. Your support will directly impact the lives of women who need it most.

The Toowoomba Metropolitan Rotary Club is committed to looking after each and every runner, our volunteers, sponsors and supporters. We LOVE to RUN! We also LOVE to Serve .We have one simple goal! To RUN | JOG | WALK and SUPPORT the COMMUNITY! In 2023 you can NOMINATE to Support Protea Place Women's Centre
Register for Rotary RUN The Range for yourself, your team, your workmates, your school or your family and then nominate Protea Place to team up with and support in 2023. $5000 raised means 3120 meals provided to women in need for 1 year! Each and every member of your team’s registration fee will be supporting Protea Place!
