PROTEA PLACE

Thanks to Melissa

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!

Just popped in to fill up the Protea Place van. Unbeknownst to me, the woman ahead of me had accidentally paid for the wrong pump.

As she walked away, I went to pay for my petrol. The cashier called out to her to let her know. She came back and said “Ok, just call it a blessing for them,” and proceeded to pay for her actual pump.

I said "No, no it’s fine we can fix it". She smiled and said, "I hope it blesses you". Then I told her, "Well actually you’ve just paid the petrol for a charity women’s support service," and pointed to our van... "And this covers us for a month so that’s who you’ve blessed".

We had a hug including the gorgeous young cashier who was also blown away.

Melissa is from NSW and just passing thru town and knew nothing about Protea Place. She reluctantly let me take a pic so we could all celebrate her kindness.

Thank you Melissa, you’ve made my day!

Walk Against Domestic Violence and Remembrance Ceremony
02 May, 2024
Thank you to Domestic Violence Action Centre for such a heartwarming evening! Heartwarming to see so many people come together for the Domestic Violence Action Centre Walk Against Domestic Violence and Remembrance Cereomony. Heartbreaking to know another 29 women have lost their lives this year already. The shoes lined up as a symbol of never forgetting the women and children taken is something that is etched on our hearts and minds. It was so wonderful to see the community support there and schools! xx

Thank you to Little Pig Consulting for creating another awesome video. We can’t wait to see what unfolds in 2024 with your support xx
Steph Andrews

Rest Peacefully Steph, Every so often we get an email that stops us in our tracks. Today was one of those days. Stephanie Andrews (Steph) lived with Disability and was supported by YellowBridge QLD for 15 years. She endured many struggles during her lifetime and we've just been told that in the early days she would have really benefited from being able to access the services of organisations like Protea Place and what we have to offer. She was an advocate for supporting vulnerable women and giving them hope, knowing that there is a better life for them. Steph had wanted to become a volunteer at Protea Place however she did not get this opportunity as she passed away from Cancer in December 2023. Stephs photo will be placed in Protea Place along with other women who have passed but who leave a lasting legacy of care to their community. Thank you Steph, we'll miss your big smile!
